Looking Glass Community

Montorio al Vomano lies on the edge of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park.  In September 2009 an assembly was held in Montorio “La Vetrina del Parco” (Looking Glass to the Park).  The purpose of the meeting was to promote the town of Montorio as a focal point and destination unto itself for individuals who want to visit the mountainous regions that lie to the west.  A second purpose was to promote the development of a bicycling trail that will lead from Montorio (and perhaps other more easterly point), travel to the east along the Vomano River, and eventually connect with a beach trail that winds along the coast of the Adriatic Sea.  Funds are currently being sought for the project and the possibility of moving forward is excellent.    Some photos of this important gathering:
